Later Saturday night the Hawkeyes beat the Gophers 55-0, even better it was on the Gophers home turf in the Metrodome.
Saturday was a good day for football teams from Johnson County.
Solon Public Library
If you live near Solon, Iowa you’ll want to check out the Solon Public Library. It is a good facility and has plenty of resources. There is a great audio book library that I use frequently for my 1/2 hour commute up to work. There are meeting/study rooms that your group or club can use for meetings.
There are a whole set of computers that you can use on a timed basis if you don’t have one at home. If you have a laptop there is a free wireless connection that you can connect to as well.
For children, there are Storytime and Babygarten programs weekly.
They are also in envisioning phase of building out the facility and services. It’ll be interesting to see what new things the library will bring to the Solon Community.
Solon Spartans Win 2A Football Championship
Solon just completed an incredible 13-0 season winning the state championship earlier today. I was able to watch most of the game on TV and the Spartans clearly dominated the game by scoring early an holding the lead. Congrats to the team.
Solon Spartans Dominating Central Lyon
We didn’t go up to UNI to see the 2A football championships, but we are watching on TV. It’s about 8 minutes into the game and we are up 14-0. This is really exciting for our team.
Go Spartans!
Conyne Kite
Two weeks ago my brother-in-law and I found a new kind of kite called the Conyne and built it from scratch with dowel rods, thread, white glue, electrical tape and tissue paper.
We build it from about 8:00pm – 12:00 am and test flew it up and down main street from about 12:00 am – 1:00 am. But we couldn’t get enough wind while he was here to really put it up.
So yesterday finally there was enough wind to put it up and boy did it fly. It pulled so hard the cord cut into my hands pretty good. Its amazing how much stress tissue paper can withstand.
September
It’s mid September and we have the first real feel of Fall in the air. The temperature really dropped this week and we’ll likely have a good frost in the next couple of days.
This is good for two main reasons. Iowa is incredibly pleasant with these cooler temperatures and the frost means the ragweed loses its ability to make me miserable.
End of May
This has been my second May in Iowa and it is my favorite month. The cold lets go, the rain is plentiful and and the world is green again. Until next year May.
